Guwahati: A forest official of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve rescued three boys from drowning in the Brahmaputra, which has been flowing above the "danger level" mark in several places.
"Bolin Bora, a speedboat operator on May 19 rescued the three boys," confirmed Bidyut Bikash Borah, the range officer of Agratoli Range. Bora reportedly found them desperately clinging to a piece of driftwood. The three boys, who had been swept away from Bishwanath district on the northern bank of Brahmaputra were rescued from Agratoli, the easternmost of the 1,055 sq km KNPTR'S four ranges on the southern bank of Brahmaputra.
As soon as he received the message that the boys were stuck in the strong currents, Bora hauled the three teenagers onto a speedboat. The three boys -- brothers Mahan Jyoti, Joyguru Kutum, and Sankar Medhi from Raonmukh village in Bishwanath district -- had ventured out in a country boat to collect grass near the river bank. The boat got caught in a strong current and wind and was overturned. Luckily, they were found near the Kaziranga and rescued.
As it was too late for the boys to return to Bishwanath on the same day, they were handed over to their relatives at Bokakhat in Golaghat district.
