TINSUKIA: A team of Sadiya forest staff, led by ranger Bibit Dihingia, seized Khair logs worth more than Rs 5 lakh from a chapori (high land) of River Luhit near 13th mile in Sunpura under Chengsup police outpost near the Assam-Arunachal border on Saturday. Dihingia told mediapersons that the logs were stacked on the chapori after these were felled illegally in Arunachal Pradesh and transported downstream by boats. The logs were later brought to Chapakhowa forest office with the help of local people engaging four tractors. As the timber mafia found land routes, including NHs, difficult following police checking, they now prefer to use waterways through numerous channels of the River Brahmaputra and River Lohit, Dihingia revealed.
