Killing of lady teacher at Kalaigaon takes a new turn

MANGALDAI: The sensational and gruesome killing of lady teacher Nayantora Saharia Barua (53) of Kalaigaon in Udalguri district has taken a U-turn as the police have finally arrested her husband Upen Barua, eldest son Hirak Jyoti Barua, domestic help Yashoda Rabha and a mason by profession Nawaj Ali alias Newaji for interrogation. The Udalguri Police initially picked up the mason on July 10 and the domestic maid on July 11 and finally picked up the husband and the son on July 11. However, the police is tight lipped over the arrest. No police officials could be contacted over phone. According to the available information, the police today produced all the four arrested persons before the Chief Judicial Magistrate at Udalguri in a very secret manner and the Chief Judicial Magistrate remanded them to the police custody for a period of seven days for further interrogation. In this connection the Kalaigaon Police has registered a case vide No. 65/2020 under section 302/201/376 of Indian Penal Code. Significantly, the allegation of rape has been ruled out in the initial medical test.

On July 6, the lady teacher Nayantora reportedly went missing. Her body was recovered by the police on July 7 from a classroom of a nearby private academic institution. The murderers poured an acid-like substance on the face of the deceased lady. Taking a serious note of the case, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had instructed the CID of Assam Police to inquire the brutal murder along with the district police. Accordingly Senior Superintendent of Police of CID Bibekananda Das visited the spot and started inquiry along with the district police and Kalaigaon Police. Officer in Charge of Kalaigaon Police Station Inspector Prasenjit Das and SDPO of Bhergaon Sub Division Nirmal Kumar Ghosh since the reporting of the missing of the lady teacher launched investigation. Mention may be made here that the slain lady teacher Nayantora Saharia Barua was serving as an Assistant Teacher while her husband is a Science teacher in the same school -Balipara Krishak Mukti High School near Kalaigaon.
