DOOMDOOMA: In a citizen meet organized by Tinsukia District Koch-RajbongshiSangramSamity (KRSS), in association with its Phillobari Anchalik Committee, on Saturday at Doomdooma, the government was urged to solve the vexed question of according Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to Koch-Rajbongshis before the 2021 assembly election.
They also urged the State Government to form the Koch-Rajbongshis Development Council so as to allot more funds for all-round development of the Koch-Rajbongshis. This was stated in a press release signed by president of Tinsukia district KRSS, Nitul Rajbongshi.
The statement further stated that Kamatapur Autonomous Council was a mid-term arrangement. "Solve the problems of Koch-Rajbongshis spread all over Assam and fulfil the promises given to the community in the past. Else severe agitation will be launched against the BJP-led government," the KRSS said.
Significantly, the KRSS warned the BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) not to use the issue of according ST status as an agenda in their election manifesto. The meeting was attended by KRSS central committee general secretary DulalRai, vice-presidentDipakRai and other leaders.
