KOKRAJHAR:As part of the 400th birth anniversary celebration of Lachit Barphukan, a week-long schedule of events planned by Kokrajhar District Administration helmed by Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka began on Friday.
It all started with the Kokrajhar police march past rally.Prof Laishram Ladu Singh, Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University, led the march past rally from the Kokrajhar Government Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School playground.
Talking to the media, Superintendent of Police Pushparaj Singh said that along with other districts of the state, the Kokrajhar police has also staged a march past in the entire Kokrajhar town so that the bravery and patriotism of Bir Lachit Barphukan reaches every person in the district. The march past was attended by Assam Police, 129th Battalion of CRPF, 6th Battalion of SSB and scouts and guides of various schools.
Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka in a meeting also spoke about the multiple and multifarious events to be held at Kokrajhar District including various competitions, marathon, cycle rally, online events and many more surprises in store for the people of Kokrajhar. The events will culminate in a grand finale on November 25.
Deka urged all Kokrajharians to come forward and participate fully in the events, as well as to upload write-ups on Lachit Borphukan in the Lachit Borphukan app.
She urged people from all walks of life to come forward and join in the celebrations. District Administration also held discussions with Merchants Association, Bodoland University and colleges, various community based organisations etc for an inclusive and mega celebration.
