KOKRAJHAR: The Kokrajhar district administration has taken several initiatives to improve the academic environment of the district. As a step towards this, it has set up a hanging library at Kokrajhar Girls' Higher Secondary School on Friday in a bid to improve the academic atmosphere of the district. The first-of-its-kind hanging library in the district was inaugurated by Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka at Kokrajhar Girls' Higher Secondary School, which she has adopted as per the school adoption policy of the Bodoland Territorial Region.
On the occasion, sanitary napkins were also ceremonially distributed by her among the adolescent girl students in association with State Bank of India and sensitized them about menstrual hygiene. In addition, Assistant Commissioner Rima Trishna Haloi trained the students in self-defence.
Speaking on the occasion, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka said that every girl needs to know the techniques of self-defence as knowing about self-defence techniques can help protect them from any attack. She also said that the distribution of sanitary napkins among the adolescent girls is a tiny step to assist the girls as studies show that one reason for absence from school by girls is due to the issues faced during menstruation.
