KOKRAJHAR: The Kokrajhar district administration has geared up to contain malnutrition and anaemia in the district through effective programmes. To eradicate malnutrition and anaemia, "Kokrajhar Cares" was launched by CEM of BTC Pramod Boro at IT Park, Kokrajhar on Monday.
Boro ceremonially launched Kokrajhar Cares for the children having malnutrition problems in the presence of EMs Ranjit Basumatary, Gautam Das, Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University (BU), Kokrajhar DC Varnali Deka and chairperson of Kokrajhar Municipal Board Pratibha Brahma. Soon after the launching of Kokrajhar Cares, as many as 649 children with malnutrition were adopted by nine departments. Boro himself adopted children with malnutrition and interacted with the guardians. The children with malnutrition would be cared under "Jwthwn ", the cares and "Onnaini Nerswn".
The CEM Pramod Boro gave food supplements to a malnutritioned child adopted by him. Other 648 malnutrition children are adopted by nine departments of BTR of which Education department adopted 12 Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and 170 Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) followed by Social Welfare department 4 SAM and 107 MAM. The departments concerned will adopt the children till their growth including education. There are 39 children with SAM and 610 MAM in the district. The district administration, Kokrajhar in collaboration with Social Welfare, Education, Bodoland University and SRLMS will give six days of training to mothers with SAM and MAM children.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro said Kokrajhar district had the highest number children with malnutrition. He said the district had 649 malnutrition children and to take care, the Jwthwn and Onnaini Nerswn was launched. He also said the departments had adopted all 648 children of the district with sincerity and responsibility of their education and growth. The malnutrition children of class VI to VIII would be provided nutritious food supplements like mushrooms biscuits, mushroom soup etc. in the schools, he said adding that the government will take necessary measures to eradicate the malnutrition. The Kokrajhar DC Varnali Deka said the district had highest number of anaemia besides malnutrition. She said mushroom is the superfood and these food supplement would be given to 649 children with malnutrition in the district. She also said the mothers of 649 malnutrition children would be given training on malnutrition.
The CEM Boro also inaugurated the mushroom training programme as production of mushrooms would be under One District One Product programme. He also constituted Poshan Club in 1014 schools in Kokrajhar district to improve the health condition of mothers and children. On the occasion Boro distributed certificate of merit to best performing SHGs and Poshan Clubs and kits of mushroom production to two schools.
