KOKRAJHAR: Along with the rest of the State, the Kokrajhar district committee of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Saturday observed the Martyrs' Day at the premises of Martyrs' tomb near Government HS & MP School, Kokrajhar and offered floral tribute to the martyrs' who laid their lives during Assam Agitation.

Talking to reporters, the vice president of central committee, AASU Nabajyati Ray said altogether 860 people were martyred during AASU agitation to safeguard the indigenous people of Assam since 1979 to 1985. He said some of the vital clauses of Assam Accord signed in 1985 are yet to be implemented as per spirit of the accord. To remember the sacrifice of the martyrs for the cause of the people of Assam, the Kokrajhar district AASU observed the Martyrs' Day in the heart of Kokrajhar town, he said adding that the students' union will never forget their sacrifice but will go on with its objectives.

Earlier, the president of Kokrajhar district AASU Dharamjit Ray hoisted the flag of the union at half mast while vice president of central committee, AASU Nabajyati Ray paid floral tribute to martyrs. A brief meeting on the significance of AASU agitation was held.
