Two people aged 25 and 29 years old were carrying illegal arms and fake notes. They are now in police custody.

Kokrajhar: Acting on specific information, Kokrajhar police managed to recover illegal arms and fake currency worth Rs 5 lakh. Two people who were carrying the illegal arms and the fake notes have been arrested. The main accused, however, managed to escape. The arrest was made in Kokrajhar.

Talking to reporters, Binanda Basumatary, police officer-in-charge who led the search team said that the Kokrajhar police had specific information regarding the presence of illegal arms and fake currency notes in Kokrajhar town.

"We followed a four-wheeler that was moving towards Kendriya Vidalay Kokrajhar Titaguri staff quarter. We carried out a search operation and found illegal arms including pistol .22, 3 round bullets, fake currency note of around Rs 5 lakhs", Basumatary said.

The two arrested persons have been identified as Namoleswar Daimary, aged 29, and Digambar Gayary, 25 years old.

Search is on for the main accused. The recovery comes days ahead of the BTC elections. The elections which were supposed to be held in April is now scheduled to be held in December this year. Kokrajhar is part of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and falls under BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council).
