TEZPUR: After the flood fury, the massive erosion caused by the Jia-Bharali River in Koroiani-Nepali Basti area under Barghat Police outpost in Tezpur LAC in Sonitpur district has rendered many families homeless.

Due to the massive erosion in the area, over 50 families have taken shelter in safer places as the River Jia-Bharali has already eroded their homes. However, the victims of the perennial flood and erosion problem have alleged that till now nobody, either from the water resource department or the district administration or the local representative, has visited the area to address their woes.

On the other hand, River Mansiri has eroded a huge chunk of area under Rangapara LAC rendering many poor families homeless while two important roads, including Boithabhanga- Amonigaon road, have been severely affected due to the erosion problem. People of Boithabhanga, Gudamghat Miri, Pachmile, Gudamghat-Kachari, Gudamghat TE, Boithabhanga and Meat Supply area have been using these roads as major means of communication. The erosion has also posed serious threat to the Khonamukh-Boithabhanga Road. People of the mentioned areas have alleged that the water resource department is not bothered to solve their problem. However, sensing more threat that may be posed by the river, local people have taken certain measures themselves to protect their areas from erosion.
