TINSUKIA: Krishna Upadhyay, a senior journalist of Tinsukia, was allegedly physically assaulted by two unknown persons in presence of his wife, who was also manhandled, in front of his residence at Kuhmar Patty located at GNB Road on Wednesday afternoon.
Upadhyay along with few other journalists and social activists have been distributing food and essential items in Tinsukia town since the lockdown. In his FIR lodged at Tinsukia Sadar PS, Upadhyay stated that two persons who approached for free ration did not follow the guidelines and they were asked to follow the procedure. The duo was later joined by another person, Yashdeo Singh and they made a hue and cry on the main road. Hearing the commotion, Upadhyay and his wife came out of the house and were immediately confronted by Singh and the other persons.
While Upadhyay was mercilessly beaten on the road, his wife came to his rescue and she too was physically manhandled, the FIR stated. The Tinsukia Press Club and Tinsukia District Journalists' Association strongly condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of of the culprits.
