NAGAON: The complete statue of Miles Bronson, an American missionary who was the pioneer of modern Assamese language and also dedicated his life to spread Christianity and education in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, was ceremonially unveiled by the president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Kuladhar Saikia here at a function held on Wednesday at Nagaon Baptist Church.
Paran Kr Boruah, president of Nagaon Zila Xahitya Xabha, chaired the programme while Prasanta Das, professor of Tezpur Central University, graced the occasion as chief guest. Local MP Pradyut Bordoloi, who extended financial assistance from his MP fund to build up the statue, was also present in the function as special guest. Significantly, July 20 was the birthday of the great pioneer of modern Assamese language - Miles Bronson.
The 23-foot high statue of the great American missionary activist was built by Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha with financial assistance from local MP Pradyut Bordoloi under his MP fund. Budding sculptor Lakhyajit Bora along with 20 workers built the statue within two years.
