GOALPARA: Madan Basumatary (45), a manual labour of a private construction company at Assam's Goalpara Railway Station, was killed by a wild elephant about 9:30 PM on Tuesday night. Basumatary hails from the Baksa district. According to information, the incident occurred when the victim came out of his temporary shelter to respond to nature's call and came face to face with the lone jumbo.

"In order to escape, Basumatary tried to climb an under construction building. However, he was dragged down by the jumbo and killed," said Dhananjoy Medhi, wildlife warden of Goalpara district. The body of Basumatary was later recovered and sent for post-mortem by police. Two children died last month in an elephant attack under the Goalpara range forest.
