Lachit Barphukan statue unveiled by Dibrugarh DC Biswajit Pegu

DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu on Thursday unveiled the statue of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan at Sahityarathi Laxminath Bezbaruah Park in Dibrugarh on the occasion of the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Barphukan.

Speaking after the inauguration, Biswajit Pegu said, "The statue will help the young generation to know about the valour of Lachit Barphukan. We have organized a cultural programme to mark the occasion. A drama on Lachit Barphukan will be staged at Dibrugarh district library."

On the other hand, Delhi Public School, Dibrugarh organized a grand celebration to pay tribute to Assam's war hero, Lachit Barphukan, General and Commander-in-chief of Ahom kingdom, on his 400th birth anniversary on Thursday.

The event was graced by distinguished chief guest, Dr Kakoli Gogoi, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Dibrugarh University, Assam, PVC CA. Sanjay Jain and Board Member Banita Jain.
