Lai khuta of 59th annual session of BSS laid in Udalguri district

MANGALDAI: The large paddy field at village Majar Chuba near the historic Tamreswar Mandir at Khairabari in Udalguri district on Wednesday wore a festive look with attendance of more than 2,000 villagers, including office-bearers of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), office bearers of the reception committee of the 59th session of BSS and various organizations to witness the most auspicious moment of the laying of the lai khuta of the pandal of the annual session of BSS scheduled on January 20, January 21 and January 22.

State Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma, in presence of the president and secretary of BSS, Taren Boro and Prasanta Boro, and president of State unit of BJP-cum-Sarbhog legislator Ranjit Kumar Das on Wednesday ceremonially laid the lai khuta of the main pandal of the proposed annual session of BSS. Addressing the august function at ‘Dauharu Fawthar’, minister Brahma reiterated the commitment of the State Government towards the ethnic literary organizations of the State and said that already the government had sanctioned an amount of Rs. 25 lakh per year for the development of these literary organizations, including the BSS. He also informed about the government’s initiative to take digital mode for the expansion and development of the Bodo language.

Taking part in the function presided over by the chairman of the reception committee, Lwmshrw Daimary, BSS president Taren Boro hoped that the annual session of the BSS, the apex literary body of the Bodos, would be able to unite all the other ethnic literary bodies under one platform with the feeling of mutual understanding and cooperation. BJP president Ranjit Kumar Das, while taking part in the function as the guest of honour, said that the State Government would extend all possible help and cooperation for making the session a successful and fruitful one. He also assured to donate one month’s salary as a mark of solidarity towards the annual session of the apex literary body.

Legislator of Mazbat Charan Boro, taking part in the function, assured to donate an amount of Rs 1 lakh for the successful management of the session. Office bearers of ABSU, NDFB (pro-talk), besides Executive Member Jagadish Sarkar, legislators Maheswar Boro and Kamali Basumatary, Deputy Speaker of BTC Assembly, Nerson Boro, Deputy Commissioner Prakash Ranjan Gharphalia, Superintendent of Police Longnit Terang, and Subdivisional Police Officer of Bhergaon, Nirmal Kumar Ghosh also attended the function.
