LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district committee of All India Democratic Students’ Organization (AIDSO) re-initiated strong protest programme on Monday reacting to the government’s decision of withdrawing the free of cost admission benefit to those students who have a backlog in any semester exam while taking their admission in the next semester.
Regarding the issue, the activists of the organization staged class boycott on Monday to oppose the decisions. The organization further opposed the decision of withdrawing the same benefits to the students who fail to have 75 per cent attendance. The organization stated that the opportunity of pursuing higher education by the students belonging to poor families of the State would be snatched away by enacting these decisions.
Shouting various slogans in protest against these decisions and in support of their demand to retain the benefits as they were, the protesters burnt the circular concerned on the DK Road Chariali. Initiating the agitation programme, the organization submitted a memorandum to the State Education Minister. Through the memorandum, the activists of the organization further demanded to facilitate free of cost admission benefits to those students too who were studying in the venture colleges of the State.
