LAKHIMPUR: The environment of Lakhimpur will rock once again with anti-big river dam agitation from November 28.

The Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYP) has declared a series of continuous agitation programmes from that day titled as ‘Ranadhwani’ against Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHP) set up by NHPC Limited at Gerukamukh in the Assam-Arunachal border area under Dhemaji district.

Regarding the details of the programmes, AJYP Lakhimpur unit president Lulu Baruah and general secretary Sudipta Hazarika said that the series of agitation programmes would start on that day with the setting up of SLHP construction materials watching centre (point), carried by the NHPC Limited, in North Lakhimpur town near Hanuman Mandir. It will be followed by a yagya initiated on November 30 to condemn the SLHP supporters and the persons involved with it and then Jal Sankalpa programme on December 1 in Ranganadi River. On December 2, the organization will pay tribute to Chao Lung Siu-Ka-Fa and will stage continuous protest programmes from December 3. Regarding the stir, the organization has made massive preparation to administer these mass protest programmes under the auspices of a convener committee led by Satyajit Dutta, Babli Gogoi, and Rajiv Talukdar. Several anti-big river dam activists will take part in the series agitation programme, informed the president and general secretary of the organization.
