LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district committees of Communist Party of India (CPI) and Nirman Shramik Santha (AITUC) demanded the intervention of the Prime Minister of India with regard to withdrawal of the case filed against the members of a ‘fact-finding committee’, including CPI leader and National Federation of Indian Women general secretary Annie Raja.
In connection with the demand, the Lakhimpur district unit of the political party and the organization submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister. The political party and the organization termed the filing of the FIR against the women leaders of the party, while visiting Manipur, as ‘unconstitutional’ and against the ‘spirit of democracy’.
Reportedly, the FIR was registered in Imphal against the members of a ‘fact-finding committee’, including CPI leader and National Federation of Indian Women General Secretary Annie Raja, who had allegedly termed the violence in Manipur “state-sponsored”. Apart from Raja, the other members are Nisha Siddhu from the NIFW and lawyer Deeksha Dwivedi. The FIR was lodged at Imphal police station on July 22 night based on a complaint filed by an individual named S Liben Singh.
Notably, the members of the Lakhimpur district unit of CPI and Nirman Shramik Santha also staged dharna in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur on Tuesday protesting against the burning situation of Manipur and filing of the case against the CPI women leaders.
