Lakhimpur DC Sumit Sattawan appeals to people to come forward for COVID testing

LAKHIMPUR: Sumit Sattawan, the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, appealed to the people of the district to come forward for COVID-19 testing in order to secure their life and to combat the pandemic effectively. He also appealed to them to maintain COVID appropriate behaviour strictly so that the contagion of the novel coronavirus could be arrested.

The Deputy Commissioner made these appeals on Friday while holding a meeting with the media persons. Notably, the new Deputy Commissioner, who assumed the charge of the district on Thursday, convened a meeting with the headquarter journalists of the district at the conference hall of his office following COVID-19 protocol. In the meeting he called upon the journalists to extend their cooperation with regard to handling the COVID-19 pandemic situation, eminent flood situation and implementing developmental schemes and activities in the district in the upcoming days. In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner informed that he held a review meeting with the officers and employees of the health department on Thursday in order to review the COVID-19 situation. He stated that all possible measures, following the guidelines laid down by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and State Government, would be initiated to control the pandemic situation.

In the meeting, the journalists reported to him about the chaotic situation and flouting of COVID-19 protocol observed in the containment zones of the district. They called upon him to ensure sanitization drives in the COVID-19 stricken areas as well as across the district by designated Public Health and Engineering Department which had been showing extreme dereliction in this regard. Moreover, the journalists called upon him to create a healthy coordination between the District Health Services and Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) authority, district administration and media, to ensure the presence of adequate number of doctors and nurses to provide due treatment to the patients of the COVID-19 ward of LMCH and other patients of North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital (NLCH), and to make ambulance service available by increasing the number of vehicles.

The Deputy Commissioner gave word that he would initiate due steps to address the issues. He expressed his concern over the death of non-vulnerable persons under 35 due to COVID-19 in Lakhimpur. In this connection, he called upon the people to remain alert and vigilant in a view to reducing the risk of life of COVID-infected people. He added that focus would be paid on aggressive testing and micro-containment to break the chain of transmission of the COVID wave.

Further, the Deputy Commissioner informed about the flood preparedness for the upcoming flood season. He said that he had already instructed the divisional officers of the Water Resources Department to complete the implementation of embankment repair and strengthening schemes immediately.
