LAKHIMPUR: Lakhimpur district administration will take strict action against those businessmen who are charging exorbitant prices for essential and other commodities taking the advantage of the adverse situation caused by the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
This warning was issued by ADC (Food and Civil Supply Department) Kulen Sarmah in a meeting held on Thursday at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office under the auspices of Food and Civil Supply Department. This urgent meeting was held as per instruction of the Principal Secretary of the department with the ADC Kulen Sarmah in the chair.
In the meeting, Deputy Director of the Food and Civil Supply Department, Prabhat Konwar along with the supply inspectors, DIPRO Mandira Chayengiya, Chambers of Commerce secretary NK Rathi, representatives of wholesalers and retail sellers from various parts of the district were present. The ADC reviewed the stock of the essential commodities in the district taking report from the wholesalers. He directed the businessmen of the district not to sell the commodities for exorbitant prices as per their own whim, but to sell them for the prices fixed by the district administration. He also instructed them to display the price list fixed by the district administration at such a place in their shops so that it could be viewed by the customers. They are further directed to follow the COVID-19 protocol in their commercial institutions and shops to check the spread of the novel coronavirus contagion.
