LAKHIMPUR: At a time when there are only two days left for the parliamentary poll result to be declared on May 23, the result related anxiety has increased among the candidates along with their supporters in Lakhimpur. Notably, a total of 11 candidates representing various political parties, including independent candidates, are in fray in No. 14 Lakhimpur House of Parliamentary Constituency (HPC) in this parliamentary election. They are Anil Borgohain of Indian National Congress, Anup Pratim Baruah of Nationalist Congress Party, Amiya Kumar Hundique of Communist Party of India(Marxist), Arup Kalita of Communist Party of India, Pradan Baruah of Bharatiya Janata Party, Ubaidur Rahman of Asom Jana Marcha, Dilip Moran of Assam Dristi Party, Bhupen Narah of Voter’s Party International, Hem Kanta Miri of Socialist Unity Centre of India(Communist) and independent candidates Ambaz Uddin and Prabhu Lal Vaisnava. However, the main contest in the election in this HPC took place between the candidates of the ruling party BJP and opposition party Congress and the political observers have forecast the result going in favour of the ruling party.
On Monday, the Lakhimpur district administration organized a press conference regarding the poll counting preparation at the conference hall of DC office. Addressing the media persons in the presence of ADC Bipul Kumar Das and SP Hare Krishna Nath, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Jeevan said that the district administration was all set for the smooth conduct of the counting process. On this occasion, a watertight security system has been arranged.
As per his report, no individuals will be allowed to enter into the counting cell. The mobile phone is also prohibited in the counting cell. Separate counting cells will count the votes cast in the Lakhimpur, Bihpuriya and Naoboicha LAC fragments under North Lakhimpur election district. The counting agents will not be allowed to enter other counting cells except their own counting cells. Further, three-fold security measure is arranged in the counting campus deploying paramilitary force, Assam Police battalions.
The counting of votes cast in Lakhimpur LAC will be completed in 16 rounds, Naoboicha LAC in 19 rounds and Bihpuriya LAC in 13 rounds. The votes in the EVMs and the records of each vote in the VVPATs will be counted separately.
