LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district administration has geared up its preparations in order to celebrate the ensuing 77th Independence Day with colourful programmes.

In this connection, a preparatory meeting was organized by the district administration in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Friday. The meeting was chaired by District Development Commissioner in the presence of ASP Munindranath Deuri, ADC Sanjib Doloi, Assistant Commissioner Jyotikana Chetia, other administrative officers, departmental heads of the district, representatives of the public, social organizations, representative of the para-military forces, police department and prominent citizens. In the meeting, detailed discussion was held over the plans and programmes of the Independence Day celebration.

From the chair, the District Development Commissioner appealed to all districts to celebrate the upcoming national festival in enthusiastic environment. The agenda of the official celebration of the festival by the district administration will kick-start with the presentation of patriotic song by District Information and Public Relation Office at 5:00 am. It will be followed by commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi and martyrs of the nation, hoisting of national flag by chief guest, march past competition among the matching troops of the police department, para-military forces, NCC cadres and students. Moreover, cultural programmes with patriotic fervour will also be organized while light food items will be distributed among inmates of the District Jail, Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital, other medical institutions of the district in connection with the festival. In the meeting, representative of Lakhimpur Police appealed to the public to be alert to maintain law and order and vigilant against any suspicious activities and occurrence during the Independence Day celebration. District people were urged upon to co-operate with the district administration and police department in this context. In the same meeting, duties and responsibilities for the smooth arrangement and celebration of the event were imposed upon various departments of the district.
