LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district administration has issued various instructions to be adhered to by the Puja Samitis while celebrating the ensuing Chhath Puja. This festival, which is historically native to the Bihari community, will be celebrated from October 28 to October 31. Prayers during the Chhath Puja are dedicated to the solar deity, Surya, to show gratitude and thankfulness for bestowing the bounties of life on earth and to request to fulfill certain wishes.

Regarding the celebration of the festival, Lakhimpur district administration organized a meeting with the Puja Samitis concerned on Friday. The meeting was held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office under the management of ADC Sanjib Doloi. It was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan in the presence of DSP Runa Neog, Circle Officers, Executive Officers of the municipal boards, officers and employees of the Health, Public Relation, Public Health and Engineering, Fire Bigrade, Disaster Management Departments in addition to the representatives of the Puja Samitis.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner asked the Puja Samitis to receive prior permission from the district administration to hold the Puja in the public places. According to the instructions of the district administration, the Puja Samitis cannot block the public places, roads and cause traffic congestion while observing the Puja. The Puja Samitis must manage parking places, engage adequate number of volunteers too. The lists of the volunteers must be submitted to the nearest police stations or outposts. The Puja Samitis have been instructed to refrain from using plastic-made substances and to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the Puja celebration venues by using adequate number of dustbins.

On the other hand, the Police Department of the district asked the Puja Samitis to install CCTV camera in the Puja mandaps. Use of loudspeaker after 10 pm is restricted. The Puja Samitis must be alert as any unscrupulous elements can sell any kind of narcotic substances near the Puja celebration venues. Further, the district administration instructed the electricity department to supply electricity to the Puja celebration venues and the Health Department to deploy a medical team with ambulance during the designated days.
