LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has expressed strong reaction against Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deuri for allegedly issuing 'life threat' to AASU leaders and making communal statement against Brahmin and Mahanta communities in the public meeting held on October 5 in Morigaon.
In this connection, Lakhimpur AASU president Pulok Borah and general secretary Dhanmoni Dutta vehemently condemned the legislator and demanded the State Government to arrest him immediately. In a press communiqué, the Lakhimpur AASU president and the general secretary declared that MLA Ramakanta Deuri had disrespected the Brahmin and Mahanta communities of the State by making the derogatory statement and committed crime by issuing life threat to AASU leader publicly. They added that the AASU would never tolerate such condemnable behaviour of the MLA.
In the same press communiqué, they questioned whether the Home Department of the State Government, which is under Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, would initiate legal action against Ramakanta Deuri or would adapt separate attitude towards him for being an MLA of the ruling party. In this regard, the organization demanded the Chief Minister to take action against the legislator 'without keeping his message of communal harmony and integration only in his speech'.
