LAKHIMPUR: Finally, daring the compromising attitude of Axom Xahitya Xabha (AXX) president Dr. Paramananda Rajbonshi regarding the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), the Lakhimpur District Xahitya Xabha (LDXX) demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to scrap the contentious Bill.
Regarding the sensitive issue, LDXX organized a protest meeting at its office conference hall on Friday with president-in-charge Umananda Baruah in the chair. The meeting strongly opposed the approval of CAB by Union Cabinet on Wednesday. After holding detailed discussion over the issue, LDXX submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through Lakhimpur DC demanding the scrapping of the controversial Bill.
The same protest meeting strongly opposed the comments made by CAB supporter cum Bengali organization leader Sukumar Biswash and AXX election officer Bijan Mahajan in front of AXX president Dr. Paramananda Rajbonshi in the press conference held at Xahitya Xabha Bhawan. Regarding this, LDXX clarified that it would never approve of the CAB at any cost. Further, the protest meeting reacted against the holding of the press conference by Dr. Paramananda Rajbonshi along with Sukumar Biswas and condemned the statement made by the Bangali leader in support of the CAB in front of the AXX president. In this regard, the protest meeting called upon the AXX president to clarify his stand too. On the other hand, the same protest meeting of the LDXX strongly opposed the statement made by Pradip Dutta Rai.
