LAKHIMPUR: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Lakhimpur Girls’ College, a premier educational institution of North Assam imparting education among women, has organized a special campaign programme in its adopted village Bogolijan from April 5 to April 11.

During the week-long programme, which has been organized under the management of NSS Executive Officer Professor Dr Mahmuda Begum, awareness drives will be initiated on health and hygiene, educational and environmental issues along with some social evils like superstitious beliefs, child marriage etc.

On Wednesday, the programme was ceremonially inaugurated by Dr Surajit Bhuyan, the Principal of the college. On the inaugural day, a blood donation camp, in collaboration with Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital, was organized as a part of the programmes. In the blood donation camp, eminent gynecologist Dr Arup Kumar Dutta took part as resource person and delivered an informative lecture on various health issues of women. Several faculties of the college, NSS volunteers and local public donated blood in the camp. On the other hand, massive awareness programmes on the adverse effects of child marriage were conducted on Thursday as parts of the programme. In this connection, the NSS volunteers of the college took out an awareness rally in addition to staging street plays at several places on the same issue.
