LAKHIMPUR: With the motto of 'Shristi, Sampreeti, Samanway- Creation, Harmony, Integration', the 63rd Lakhimpur Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan kick-started on Wednesday with a four-day long agenda, strictly adhering to COVID appropriate behaviour.

The first day agenda of the event started with the unfurling of flag by Sanmilan president Uday Sankar Hazarika. Then working president Sanjib Konwar administered the smriti tarpan event. In connection with the programme, over 50 luminaries hailing from different parts of the district were accorded warm felicitation by the Bihu committee. Moreover, traditional game Koni Juj was also organized.

This year, the Lakhimpur Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan postponed the taking out of colourful cultural rally on the occasion in view of the sudden surge of coronavirus contagion. Instead of it, the Bihu committee organized a cultural convention with the participation of several cultural groups representing various indigenous communities and Mukali Bihu competition among them. This programme was inaugurated by Jadab Sarmah, the chief secretary of Axam Xahitya Xabha.

In this competition, the first prize was grabbed by Bodhakora Anchlik Bihu Dol while Jonbai Bihu Dol won the second prize. On the other hand, Borimuri Rongali Bwisagu Aijo Afad and Joyhing Jhumoi Dol jointly secured the third prize. In cultural tableau competition, North Lakhimpur Police Station grabbed the first prize for mythological Ananta Sharya, Binod Pegu's team secured second prize for Mising traditional houses and Borimuri Gaon cultural group secured third prize for Assamese traditional village tableau. On the other hand, encouraging prize was given to Puja Gogoi in Lakhimpuror Lakhimi event and to Puja Saikia in Lakhimpuror Bowari event.

It was followed by Saru Bihuwoti competition, which was inaugurated by Additional Superintendent of Police Pranab Kumar Pegu. In the evening, cultural programme was organized with the participation of local vocal artistes. This event was inaugurated by senior vocal artiste Bijoya Tamuli Phukan.

On Thursday, environment-related programme 'Kopou Phulor Edin' and various competitions among students and women will be held.
