LAKHIMPUR: After the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan, Muslims in Lakhimpur district celebrated the sacred festival Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday with festive enthusiasm.
On the occasion, the community Namaj was organized at North Lakhimpur Kendriya Eidgah Maidan near Bor Masjid at 8.30 am. The Namaj was rendered by Hafiz-Tari Maulana Rafiqul Islam, the Imam of Khelmati Jame Masjid. Over five thousand devotees took part in the event.
Then the people of the community did ‘jiyarat’ at North Lakhimpur central cremation ground jointly and individually wishing the eternal peace of their ancestors. Simultaneously, Eid Namaj was done at other masjids located in the outskirts of North Lakhimpur town. The festival was reportedly celebrated in other places of the district such as Narayanpur, Bihpuriya, Bongalmora, Laluk, Boginadi, etc.
On the other hand, the Lakhimpur district body of Muslim Gana Mancha organized a unique programme on this occasion. The organization distributed pure drinking water and light food items among more than three hundred patients in North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital. In addition, the members of the organization took stock of the problems of the patients.
It is noteworthy that the organization has initiated this programme at NLCH on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr for the last five years. President Alhaj Syed Azad Hussain, founder Sajad Hazarika, advisers Dr Hamidur Rahman, Faizur Rahman, Baharul Islam, members Saj Uddin Ahmed Laskar, Abdul Rouf, Syed Aliur Rahman, Harish Ali, Lakhimpur MASS secretary Raju Singha, TAYPA president Ajit Burhagohain, Chutia Jati Sanmilan secretary Manik Baruah, advocate Sirajul Islam Hazarika, former journalist Harnul Rasid, senior citizen Tarak Borah along with a host of well-wishers, members of the organization took part in the programme.
