Lakhimpur Police nabs 1 fugitive prisoner, other 3 still on the run

Lakhimpur police managed to arrest Papu Das a prisoner of North Lakhimpur District Jail who had escaped from the prison on October 2.

Police caught him on Monday. The fugitive prisoner was nabbed by the police from Dorpand area where he was hiding. Das was earlier sent to jail on June 20 on theft charges.

He had eloped from the jail with three other inmates identified as Rahul Deori, Loknath Pegu, and Pranab Baniya. One of the escapees -- Loknath Pegu -- had reportedly been jailed after being accused of the heinous crime of rape. The other two -- Rahul Deori and Pranab Baniya, were serving jail term for stealing motorbikes.

The police are yet to trace the whereabouts of Rahul, Loknath the rapist and Pranab.
