LAKHIMPUR: Lakhimpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Anand Mishra conducted his first operation in the Assam district shortly after taking over post, to combat the threat of fake gold and currency notes, and on Tuesday he detained three criminals in connection with fake gold smuggling.

The three smugglers were taken into custody by a police operation conducted by SP Anand Mishra in Balikata and Haripur. According to accounts, the defendants are Saddam Hussain, Sariful Islam, and Gulzar Hussain.

The accused engaged in the state's illicit trade of smuggling phony gold for a number of days.

Mishra committed to fighting tenaciously against all sorts of immoral and unlawful behaviour, focusing especially on the use of counterfeit money and gold.

Anand Mishra, the superintendent of police in North Lakhimpur, has made a crucial step towards addressing the problem of fake gold and counterfeit money by establishing a dedicated complaint helpline number.

The goal of the helpline, which can be reached at the designated input number 6000815799, is to enable people to report instances of fraudulent activity and assist in identifying those responsible.

Mishra addressed the issues of narcotics and fake currency notes after taking over as the new SP of North Lakhimpur and swore to follow the law and the instructions of higher authorities. His priorities would be defending justice and preserving the public interest, he said.

Anand Mishra said in a statement to the media on Sunday night after arriving in Lakhimpur, “Thank you for giving me the opportunity for serving the people of Lakhimpur. Lots of work is to be done here. I will work as per law and with positivity. I also hope that everyone here will cooperate. I don’t think there is any kind of political pressure. I will not let any kind of anti-social and illegal activities destroy society. It is time for some action now.”

On May 20, Assam's Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, pledged to launch a significant operation against the state's bogus currency and gold rackets.

A total of 75 persons were detained by the Assam police last night in connection with the trafficking in fake gold and FICN in the state, he added. The DGP told the media that the police had also found a fake gold piece and Rs. 6.5 lakh in Assam's Biswanath district.
