GHUNAKHUTI: Assam chief minister Himata Biswa visited the Lakhimpur district of the state to announce several projects for the region.

The CM spoke about the immense tourism prospects in the Ghunakhuti region of the Lakhimpur district and the possibility showcase the natural beauty as well as the rich cultural heritage of the region.

He announced the Ghunakhuti - Lakhimpur bridge project on the Subansuri river, which is to be built with an expanse of Rs 383 Cr and will be completed before 2026. The work on this bridge will commence in two months. This new bridge will be a part of the CM's dream of better connectivity within the state. People from Jorhat will be able to travel to Lakhimpur in the morning and return by the evening after completing all their chores. This will also be possible for the Dhokuakhana and the Ghunakhuti regions of the district.

"If everything goes as planned, we will travel on the new bridge by car during the campaigning of the 2026 elections," said Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The second phase of the Lakhimpur sports complex will begin soon. He also added that the Bisturam Doley mini stadium in Dhakuaklhana will be created in the district to enable ample opportunities for sports and other physical activities in the state.

Bhajua Tiniali to Masmora via Dhokuakna road has been sanctioned by the state government today. Along with that, several other roads will be created, reconstructed and expanded across the district and several parts of the river embankment will be reinforced.

Renovation of the District Library and Museum of Lakhimpur District to help not only the students but also every other educated individual in the district mentioned the CM in his speech.

An interstate bus terminus will also be created in the Lakhimpur district of the state to enable better connectivity for local people as well as for tourists travelling to the region.

10000 families from Lakhimpur will receive new ration cards from the state government. These ration cards from Assam will enable Rs 5 lakh medical insurance annually to each of the members of the family

Local people will receive entitlement to government land where they have been residing and farming over the years under the Orunudoi 2.0. During his visit, the CM also announced the start of a special immunization drive across the state to eradicate several illnesses.
