LAKHIMPUR: The unexpected and unprecedented situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the lifestyle of the people across the globe. It has affected the day-to-day life of the working class of people, irrespective of their age and gender.

In addition to the health workers, the police personnel, as one of the active sections of the front line fighters against the pandemic, are under massive risk of the COVID-19 contagion while they are on duty.

The use of face mask has been made mandatory to contain the spread of the deadly virus and to check its infection. But now it is observed that the police personnel on duty, including the traffic police, have to put the face mask on and to take it out frequently in order to blow their whistle. It increases their risk factor of becoming victims of COVID-19 infection.

To reduce the risk of the deadly virus contagion, a Lakhimpur youth named Raju Singha has made a face mask for the convenience of the police personnel. The main characteristic of the mask is that the system for blowing the whistle is securely designed in the mask with a special technique by balancing it with the mouth position so that the police personnel do not have to put the mask on and take it out frequently to blow the whistle. Regarding the safety of his innovation, Raju Singha said, "This 'police mask' is undoubtedly useful for the Police Department. It is fully safe and secure. It is made with three layers of cloth following the guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO). The police personnel on duty, not of the State alone but of the whole nation, can blow the whistle through a hole especially managed in the mask. The hole will automatically block as soon as the whistle is removed from it."

Raju Singha, who is the permanent resident of Ward No. 6 of North Lakhimpur town, further said that the mask could be used after washing it more than 200 times. "The mask is made up with cotton cloth. It is a gift from Aatmanirbhar Assam to the police personnel of the nation who are relentlessly serving to secure us from the clutches of COVID-19 contagion, besides their designated duty," Raju Singha said.
