JAMUGURIHAT: Dipumani Sarma Memorial Science lecture convened by the Biswanath branch of Assam Science Society was held at Dalanguri HSS on Tuesday with Rana Prasad Hazarika, retired professor of Biswanath College in the chair. The day-long programme began with a Borgeet performed by Balaram Sarma followed by illumination of earthen lamps in front of the portrait of Dipumani Sarma and floral tributes by Ratna Kanta Mahanta.

Dr. Sanjib Upadhyaya, joint secretary of the organization, briefed the objectives while Niranjan Saikia, principal of the school inaugurated the session. Ripunjay Bordoloi, secretary, forwarded a welcome address. Kishor Barua, professor of the department of Physics, Tezpur University graced the occasion as an appointed speaker who delivered a thought provoking lecture on 'Astronomy: myth and reality'. Dhaneswar Bora, professor of the department of Physics, Biswanath College delivered a memorial lecture on the life and works of late Dipumani Sarma. Dipumani Sarma was an engineer in the Railway department who died in a train accident in 1994. The event was attended by Raju Barua, Adhar Kurmi among others.
