Lecture Programme on Thalassemia held in Tinsukia Bangiya Vidyalaya HS School

TINSUKIA: As a part of the 81st foundation day of Tinsukia Bangiya Vidyalaya HS School, the celebration committee organized a lecture programme on Thalassemia in the school auditorium on Saturday which was delivered by Dr. Ramendu Hom Choudhury, an eminent orthopedic surgeon of Kolkata and a Thalassemia awareness specialist.

With rich tribute paid to Suresh Chandra Hom Choudhury who was headmaster of the school from the period 1952-1956, for Dr. Hom Choudhury it was nostalgic as his siblings were brought up in Tinsukia. Dr. Hom Choudhury paid a floral tribute to the portrait of his father.

In his speech, Dr. Hom Choudhury said, “Thalassemia is a dreaded disease which is not usually curable. The disease is hereditarily related to a blood disorder, cannot be prevented but there are ways through awareness and proper management that help in preventing the complication of the disease.”

The programme chaired by Monoj Kr Singha, president of SMDC, was attended by Dr. Kirti Ranjan Dey, leading citizens, academicians and students of the school. Noted educationist Sipra Dutta Hom Choudhury, an alumnus, and sister of Dr. Hom Choudhury, was also present along with her family.
