KOKRAJHAR: A six-member team of the Employment Review Committee, Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday visited Kokrajhar as part of a study tour. The team led by chairperson and Kokrajhar East MLA Lawrence Islary visited the Central Institute of Technology (CIT) and National Thermal Power Station (NTPC), Salakati and held discussion with the officials and took stock of the process of employment and vacant posts in the two institutions.
The committee stressed the maintenance of 90 per cent reservation for locals in 3rd and 4th grade posts. Speaking to reporters, chairman of the committee Lawrence Islary said the six members team of Employment Review Committee, Assam Legislative have visited CIT and NTPC and sought reports on the number of employees, process of employment and also on vacant posts. He said the committee will submit the report to the assembly for necessary action and steps.
Nagaon MLA Roopak Sarma said as per OM (official memorandum) of the assembly committee, 90 percent of employment in 3rd and 4th grade should be reserved for locals. He said the committee will press for 90 per cent reservation for locals in 3rd and 4th grade posts.
The team later held a meeting with Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner and other concerned department officials at the DC conference hall. The six members team are on a two-day visit to Kokrajhar, Chirang and Bongaigaon w.e.f. September 13 to 14. The team includes Dibrugarh MLA Taranga Gogoi, Tinsukia MLA Suren Phukan, Sonitpur MLA Prithiraj Rabha and Sidli MLA Jayanta Basumatary.
