TINSUKIA: The Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) under National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLCP) was formally launched on Monday from the residence of Labour Minister Sanjoy Kishan in presence of a large gathering on Monday.

Dr Bornali Dutta Borah, SDM&HO-cum-District Nodal Officer (NLEP) elaborated in detail the steps taken to unearth undetected cases through community participation. Seeking support of all sections of the society, Dr Borah exhorted the common public to inform any known case of leprosy or having suspected symptoms to the visiting ASHA workers during door-to-door campaign. The health department alone cannot eradicate leprosy which can be cured with medicines, she said. Dr Borah also composed a song on leprosy awareness which was sung by her and was released in social media. The programme was addressed by Minister Kishan, Dr Jayanta Bhattercharjee Joint DHS and senior journalist Rishi Das and was attended by Mamoon Borkotoky DIPRO, Sangita Das DME (NHM) besides other dignitaries.
