DOOMDOOMA: In view of ensuing municipal elections, Tinsukia district administration, by a notification, ordered all the license holders of firearms to surrender their weapons at the nearest Police Station immediately.

The weapons so submitted would be returned to the licensees just after the declaration of the results of the municipal elections, it was stated in a press release issued by DIPR, Tinsukia. In case of violation of this order, besides taking legal action under Weapons Act of Government of India, 1959 against the individual, his or her license for such firearms will be cancelled, it was further stated in the notification.
