Covid Centres in Guwahati, Assam: With the roll-out of the world's biggest coronavirus vaccine along with rest of India, the Assam government has also kick-started the process of vaccination drive across the 33 districts of the Assam state. With the mass drive, questions also arises among the citizens with regards to the safety of the emergency approved vaccine.

COVID-19 Vaccination Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Which Covid vaccine is approved in India?

Ans: In India currently, only two vaccines are approved- Covishield and Covaxin are the two vaccines approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for emergency use. Covishield is developed in Pune whereas Bharat Biotech's Covaxin is homegrown in Hyderabad.

Q: Can I choose which Covid vaccine I get?

Ans: The vaccination drive will be in a phased manner- In the first phase all the covid warriors which include doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, ambulance drivers, cleaning staff which were on the field physically dealing with the Covid patients which will be around 1.9 lakhs, health workers. (private and government)

In the second phase all the frontline staff which includes police, paramilitary which will be around 1 lakh people. In the third phase, which can be called the must vaccination for all the persons above 50 years. Further along with that people below 50 years with the presence of comorbidity will also be provided with the vaccine.

The vaccine will not be accessible to the masses now. However, once it is open to the public, beneficiaries will have to register and submit ID proof for vaccination on the Co-Win app.

Once the registration is complete, the beneficiary would receive an SMS on their mobile number regarding the due date, venue and time of vaccination, however, it will be the health department who will decide on the vaccine brand i.e. Covishield or Covaxin.

Q: When do you get the 2nd Covid shot?

Ans: The second dose will be given after 28 days and for which a reminder will be sent to the beneficiary via the Co-Win app along with an SMS stating about the due date, venue and time of vaccination.

Q: Is the vaccine for Covid 19 going to be administered soon?

Ans: The Serum Institute of India (SII) has already stockpiled around 50 million dosages of the vaccine and aims to produce up to 100 million dosages per month by March this year.

Q: How many people are vaccinated for Covid in Assam?

Ans: In Assam, the government has currently received 2,21,500 doses against the demand of 3,80,000 doses. Out of which 2,10,500 are Covishield and 20,000 are Covaxin and the first priority will be given to Covid warriors.

Meanwhile, the Centre has identified 300 million people to receive the first doses of the vaccines and priority group is made up of 30 million health care workers, policemen, soldiers and volunteers, and 270 million vulnerable people mostly citizens above the age of 50 and 10 million others with serious comorbidities.
