TINSUKIA: Jibonar Eti Duti Khyan, the second part of the autobiography of renowned litterateur and authority on Bihu culture, Joykanta Gondhia, was unveiled at a programme organized by his family at the auditorium of the Lions Club of Digboi on Sunday on the occasion of his 78th birthday.
The autobiography was released by Dr Pradip Neog, a Bihu scholar, who in his speech recalled the contributions of Joykanta Gondhia towards Assamese folk culture and literature. The autobiography was published by Sunil Khanna on behalf of Sagar Enterprises and Vishwagreen Realtor Pvt Ltd, Mumbai. The daughter and the daughter-in-law of Khanna, who held Gondhia in a very high esteem, were present in the programme.
The programme, chaired by the president of Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sewi Mancha Atul Chandra Sharma, began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp before the portrait of Gondhia by Kripal Phukan, president of the Dibrugarh unit of Bihu Suraksha Samity, Asom.
Former Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar district, Lakshminandan Gogoi, released the memorial book Mritrunjoy Pracchada published by Gondhia's family. Another Bihu scholar, Dr Prabir Dutta unveiled the revised edition of Gondhia's book Shankardevar Natyakola Aru Ankiya Naatar Saundrjya.
Earlier, addressing the gathering as the chief speaker, litterateur Punyya Saikia dwelt at length on the life and works of Joykanta Gondhia. The president of Bihu Suraksha Samity, Asom Golok Moran and member Dr Bhupen Deka also spoke on the occasion. Moran announced that the Samity would observe Gondhia's birth anniversary every year and would also install a bust of the scholar.
The programme was anchored by Joykanta Gondhia's daughters Akashi Amiya Gondhia and Amiya Madhuri Gondhia, and Jonali Burhagohain. Gondhia's wife Amiya Gondhia offered the vote of thanks. A good number of people from across the State and Mumbai attended the programme.
