Litterateur Pradip Hazarika to be conferred with Sashichandra Barbaruah Award

Dibrugarh: Srimanta Shankardev Sangha (SSS) will posthumously honour renowned litterateur, research professor and also an office-bearer of SSS, Pradip Hazarika with the prestigious Sashichandra Barbaruah Award on February 7.

The award, presented every two years, will include a citation, a bundle of books, the tangible award, and a cheque to the tune of Rs 1 lakh. Pradip Hazarika, who passed away on January 5, was the sub-editor of a vernacular newspaper, besides working for Assam Cooperative Department. Hazarika was also associated with Assam Agricultural University. Later, he became a lecturer of Moran College. From 1986-2011, he was the Head of the Department of Assamese, Moran College. Then he became the Principal of Rajgarh College. He also served as a professor in the Assamese Department in Shankardev University.

Hazarika was also an accomplished writer, who wrote several books, novels, stories, dramas and columns. He was also the founder secretary of Moran Women’s College and president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Moran branch.
