Local pig traders stage protest at Doomdooma

TINSUKIA: The local pig traders under the banner of Tinsukia Zilla Pashupalan Santha burned the effigy of State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora at Doomdooma on Thursday in protest against the import of pigs and piglets from outside the State.

The traders alleged that despite restrictions imposed by the Gauhati High Court, a big syndicate was operating in the State, which had severely affected their livelihood. The traders, while demanding immediate halt to the import of pigs from outside the State, threatened to set ablaze trucks importing pigs on roads.
