LAKHIMPUR: After the dissatisfaction against a section of party leaders and resignation of former Union Minister Rajen Gohain as chairman of the Assam Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited, the trouble in the Assam unit of the BJP has spread to Lakhimpur district ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year.

At a time when Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has denied any kind of dissatisfaction on the part of the veteran leaders and members of Assam BJP, by saying that the 'Old BJP-New BJP' concept is the creation of media, as many as 9 veteran leaders of the Lakhimpur BJP have quit the party.

These disgruntled leaders are former Lakhimpur district unit BJP president Kusha Sarmah, former vice-president Narayan Baruah, former Majuli district unit Yuva Marcha general secretary-cum-central committee executive member Kushal Hazarika, former Lakhimpur district unit BJP vice-president Nityananda Mili, former Telahi Mandal BJP president Khiren Bhuyan, former Telahi Mandal BJP secretary Hemchandra Mahanta, former Telahi Mandal Yuva Marcha secretary Champak Das and former Telahi Mandal BJP vice-president Charu Borah.

Regarding the quit of the party these local BJP leaders of the district, in a press release sent to media on Sunday, said that they decided to quit the party because of the current public dissatisfaction against the activities of Assam BJP and the incumbent State Government. "We took the decision to quit the party being dissatisfied against price hike, syndicate, recent dissidence and killing of democratic spirit in the party," the press release added.

"More than thousands of veteran workers are planning to quit the BJP in the upcoming days," the press release further stated.
