GUWAHATI: Amidst a tight busy schedule, Assam's proud daughter Lovlina Borgohain returned to her birthplace just to spend a night with her family members.

The Tokyo Olympics medal-winning athlete reached Assam on August 17 after taking part in the Independence Day celebration in New Delhi. She returned to Assam on August 12, but could not visit her ancestral home due to a busy schedule.

All the Tokyo Olympics medal-winning Indian athletes were invited by the Union government to take part in the Independence Day celebration at Red Fort.

On the noon of August 17, Lovlina with her father Tiken Borgohain reached Dimapur by air. They reached their home at the Barmukhia village, Barpathar, Golaghat.

The villagers greeted and welcomed her amidst a joyful environment. Calm and composed Lovlina was seen happy amidst her family members and kith and kins. She took dinner with her mother and other kins after a gap of several months and spent a night in her home.

This was the second time Lovlina visiting Assam after winning a medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

"She is back home after almost a year. It is a big moment for us. She will be back for a long time after August 25 perhaps," her father said.

Lovlina was received by a large number of people from Golaghat on reaching Dimapur airport in neighboring Nagaland on Tuesday afternoon. Among those who welcomed her at the airport were BJP MLA Biswajit Phukan, and the district deputy commissioner and superintendent of police.

She was escorted to her village, a distance of nearly 55 km from Dimapur, in a convoy of four-wheelers and two-wheelers as people lined up on both sides of the road to greet her.

Many of them loudly cheered Lovlina, while many gifted her 'gamochas' (traditional Assamese towels) and flower bouquets along the route.
