LPG pilferage racket busted, five held by Tinsukia Police

TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia Police led by DSP Bitul Chetia unearthed a big racket of LPG pilferage and nabbed five thieves, besides seizing a truckload of LPG cylinders bearing registration number AS 23CC 1113, allegedly own by one Paban Kalita.

According to reports, the police, after recovering more than 100 illegal LPG cylinders from a godown at Lesenga near NH-37 on the outskirts of Tinsukia, learnt that using highly sophisticated technique, the thieves decanted 2 kg of LPG gas from each filled LPG cylinder into an empty cylinder and sealed it. These pilfered cylinders are sold to consumers in the black market.

Sources further informed that the trucks that carried the cylinders were from Gopanari Bottling Plant of IOC. The five thieves nabbed from the godown are Nayanjyoti Dihingia (26) of Kothalguri under Kakopathar PS, Rubul Dihingia (30) and Girin Dihingia of Sepon Nahoroni under Moran PS, Paban Kalita (34) and Bhim Chutia of Lesenga under Barekuri PS.
