DIBRUGARH: At least 10 children undergoing treatment at the Pediatric Department of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMC&H) had a lucky escape when one monitor in the ICU ward caught fire probably because of technical fault. However, due to prompt and joint efforts of staff, employees, postgraduate doctors on duty and other paramedical staff in the ward, the fire was doused with the help of extinguishers kept in the room.

According to Superintendent of AMC&H, Dr. Prasanta Dihingia, all the children of the ward are safe and have successfully been shifted to another ward in the campus. He further stated that the ventilators which had caught fire were received under PM Cares Fund.

The AMC&H Superintendent said, "We have already initiated an internal inquiry to ascertain the cause of the fire. We have already written to the Government of Assam to institute an investigation which will help to find out the truth behind the cause of fire."
