Gossaigaon: On the occasion of Mahalaya, a mahayagya was organized at the Gossaigaon Brahma Mandir premises of Kokrajhar district aimed at world peace. Gossaigaon Election Officer Hitesh Rai along with hundreds of devotees and social workers were present during the programme.

Jorhat: On the day of Mahalaya today, people of Jorhat woke up at 3 am to welcome Goddess Durga.

The whole city wore a pre-festive mood as people from all walks of life thronged the malls and shopping complexes were cultural programme were organized. Hot jalebis were sold in every nook and corner of the city.

Four accidents were reported from different places of Jorhat district and a total of eight people were injured. They were rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, informed police sources.

SARUPATHAR: Devotees observed Shubho Mahalaya on Saturday morning at around 4 am in Sarupathar.

As part of the celebration, nearly 20 artistes from Chatiyani Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee, without any professional training, gave a lively performance of Shubho Mahalaya, a unique live-street programme, in the centre of Sarupathar town. The artistes started the programme at around 4 am. This programme is staged every year at day break on Mahalaya. More than 2,000 people crowded to see the lively performance of Shubho Mahalaya in Sarupathar town.
