GUWAHATI: Assam Governor and Chancellor of the Majuli University of Culture Gulab Chand Kataria during his maiden visit to Majuli on Wednesday, visited the University and interacted with the teachers and students of the university in the presence of the Vice Chancellor Dr. Nirode Boruah.

Interacting with the teachers and students, the Governor said that preservation and promotion of India’s cultural wealth should be a high priority for the country, as it is vital to the country’s identity as well as its economy. That is why the new National Education Policy has given top importance on art and culture so that the creative abilities of the students can be enhanced.

Kataria also said that Majuli University is a holistic higher education centre. It is also a centre for cultural research. Its main subject is to study and conduct research on the diverse and multifaceted cultural lifestyle of the people of India, especially Assam and the Northeast. He also said that he is confident that the new education policy would play a crucial role in the development of culture and Majuli University would prove to be successful in achieving this objective. Governor Kataria also said that Majuli University of Culture has to promote the essence of Indian Knowledge System (IKS) and has to upgrade and promote research of cultural heritage of the region to be able to emerge as a leading university in the country.

The Governor also asked the VC, teachers and students of the university to work towards creating an “Incredible and Unique nation” by making a significant contribution to the development of research in Indian culture. He also asked the students to gather knowledge and contribute towards the growth of the society, stated a press release.
