Guwahati: Former Congress leader Ripun Bora, who recently resigned and joined TMC, on Wednesday, said that the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the ''most suitable'' opposition candidate for Prime Minister's post in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
While speaking to news agency ANI, Bora asserted that he respects all the opposition leaders but considering the ground reality, he is of the opinion that Mamata Banerjee is the only one fighting aggressively against Modi.
Praising Banerjee further he said that she is a vastly experienced Chief Minister for the last three terms.
"She was a Member of Parliament seven times. Even after becoming Chief Minister, in the past one year, she has been trying without any break to unite all opposition right from KCR to Sharad Pawar to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and holding meetings to unite for one opposition front," ANI quoted him as saying.
''Considering all this ground reality my personal opinion is that Mamata Banerjee would be the best-suited candidate for the opposition Prime Minister candidate in 2024,'' he added.
Bora on Sunday had joined the TMC in the presence of the party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
In his resignation letter to AICC president Sonia Gandhi, he had alleged that the leaders of the Congress party were fighting each other for their vested interests.
