Man drowns in River Tirap of Jagun in Fulbari area of Tinsukia district

JAGUN: Under Jagun Police Station in Jagun, a man drowned in Tirap River of Jagun in Fulbari area of Tinsukia district while bringing his cattle from the riverside along with two of his friends on Friday morning. As per sources, the deceased has been identified as Putul Karmakar (39) of Keniya Faneng village in Jagun Fulbari in Tinsukia district. The local police and SDRF personnel reached the spot the same day and initiated rescue operation the whole day but failed to find the body. The body was fished out by the local people on Sunday morning. It was sent for post-mortem. Local people alleged that due to the increasing water level of the Tirap and Dehing rivers and big pits illegally dug to extract sand and rocks for use in construction works, such incidents are common in this area.
