NUMALIGARH: A person named Bishnu Mandal (54) was injured by elephants on Sunday. He is a resident of village Dewal-Tol Laokhowa which is a revenue village in the fringe of Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary. DFO Nagaon wildlife division took prompt action and asked the beat officer of Laokhowa forest beat, Dhiraj Das and his team to take the injured Bishnu Mandal to the BP Civil Hospital, Nagaon. With assistance from Wild Aid (non-governmental organization), Bishnu was given first aid in Nagaon Civil Hospital and then referred to Guwahati for further medical assistance.

Honorary Wildlife Warden of Nagaon, Dr Smarajit Ojah helped the forest department with prompt action for required treatment of the injured person. He contacted Dr Abhijit Neog who treated Bishnu on time and saved his life. He was operated in a private hospital in Guwahati and he is now out of danger. WTI (Wildlife Trust of India), Assam Forest Department, and many other organizations are coming forward and providing financial assistance for the treatment of Bishnu Mandal.
